Thinking about visiting Menorca in October? The summer season is over, and the island is winding down ahead of winter. But visiting Menorca in October means you have warm, pleasant days, with mild days being more common at the beginning of the month. Most of the bars and restaurants are still open from summer, although some of the smaller beach chiringuitos have closed for the season. The crowds are significantly thinner, with school holidays being well over, and the island is starting to return to a much more local feel.

The days are still warm, but no longer hot; usually, temperatures are in their low-to-mid 20s; the sea is swimmable, although much cooler, and there is an autumnal glow to the island. The days are shorter, and you can enjoy quiet beaches now that the summer crowds have well and truly left.

Is Menorca in October a Good Time to Visit?

Yes, Menorca in October is a good time to visit. It is well and truly into shoulder season, so you get a cheaper and quieter version of the island compared to September. The trade-off is that some of the restaurants and bars have closed down, so you will need to check opening dates if there are places you particularly want to visit.

However, instead you are treated to an island that is calm, peaceful and offers some stunning scenery. If you are visiting in early October, you have a greater chance of milder days, with temperatures still in the mid 20s. By the end of the month, the weather has cooled, and there is more chance of rain. This is a fantastic time of year to visit if you want to persue more a more active holiday. The weather is cooler for hiking or cycling.

How to get to Menorca in October

The only airport on the island is Menorca Airport (MAH), which is located just 5km from the capital, Mahón. In October, the flight schedule is starting to return to a winter one, meaning there are fewer arrivals.

• From the UK: Direct flights take about 2 hours and 20 minutes. In 2026, major carriers like easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, and British Airways will operate some routes from London (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton) and regional hubs like Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh and Belfast.
• From Europe: You’ll find daily direct connections from major Spanish cities like Barcelona (55 mins) and Madrid (1h 30m), as well as seasonal routes from Paris, Milan, and Berlin.

At this time of year, you’ll find a decent choice of flights, though the frequency has dropped from summer, and some of the regional routes start winding down, especially later in the month. The prices are noticeably lower than peak summer prices, so it is a good time to find a bargain.

How to get around Menorca in October

By October, Menorca’s transport network has reduced back to closer to its winter schedule. The island-wide bus services are still running, but less frequently than in the summer. The dedicated shuttles (like the ones from Ciutadella to the southern coves) start reducing their schedules, or stop completely, again particularly towards the end of the month. Make sure to check the timetables in advance.

However, as always with Menorca, if you want the freedom to explore at your own pace and find some of the off-the-beaten-track spots, hiring a car is still the best option. And this is particularly true in October, as the public transport is less frequent. Hiring a car is the only way to reach the remote trailheads of the Camí de Cavalls or inland villages like Ferreries at your own pace. Menorca in October is quieter, meaning car parking spots are less likely to be full at popular beaches. The car parks that were closed to tourists in the summer season are also now open again.

For solo travellers or couples, hiring a scooter is a fantastic alternative. It’s arguably the best way to navigate the narrow streets of Ciutadella and Mahón, and you’ll often find dedicated motorcycle parking spots that cars can’t fit into.

If you don’t want to drive, there are still a few options. The bus route between the two main cities, Mahón and Ciutadella, does run year-round. There are taxis available from Mahón and Ciutadella. Pre-booking a private transfer from the airport works well for arrivals.

Weather in Menorca in October

Menorca in October is when the summer fully starts to give way to autumn. The intense heat of July and August has long gone, and even the lingering heat from September has faded. The days are noticeably shorter, evenings are now cool rather than comfortable, and the Tramuntana winds are a regular occurrence, rather than just a much-needed breeze.

It has become much less about a beach holiday, but more about a good place to travel to for adventurous activities such as hiking and cycling. Or for exploring the inland villages. The sea is still swimmable, although it can definitely now be described as bracing!

• Temperatures: Daytime highs typically sit around 21–23°C at the start of the month, but drop to 17–19°C by the end. Evenings are much cooler, generally in the 15–18°C range. So you will want a jacket if you are dining outdoors.
• Sunshine: Expect around 6 hours of sunshine per day, with around 11 hours of daylight.
• Rainfall: October sees an increase in the amount of rain from September. Expect showers on roughly a quarter of the days, with an average of 85mm over 12 rainy days for the month. Although they are often showers.
• Sea Temperature: The sea has started to cool from the summer months and is around 20–22°C for most of the month. Still swimmable, but much cooler.
• Winds: The Tramuntana are a regular feature by October. This keeps the island feeling fresh and cool. Making October a great month for sailing and watersports. However, it can make the north coast feel blustery, rather than just breezy, more so than the sheltered south.

Where to Eat in Menorca In October

While many of the restaurants, particularly the beach ones, are starting to close in October, there are still plenty that are opening. Giving you a good few options to choose from:

Where to Eat in Mahon

In October, there are still plenty of restaurants open in Mahon; a few are listed below:

• Cantina: Located on the Illa del Reil, this little restaurant nestled under the trees is open until 25th October.
• Pipet & Co: A perfect spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch and is open all year round.
• Tapas Can Avelino: A Spanish family-run restaurant that serves tapas and is known for good value.
• Bar Restaurante Latitud 40: With excellent views of the port, lively vibes and local charm.
• Paput: Some of the best burgers on the island! Generally closed at the end of October.

Where to Eat in Es Castell

• El Chivito: One of the few year-round places in Es Castell. Stop here to enjoy tapas and snacks.
• Miramar: Open in October if the weather is good. Serves excellent tapas.
• Chèspir Calesfonts: A cosy bar in a cave in Calesfonts, Es Castell. Delicious tapas and great drinks.

Where to Eat in Binibeca

• Nautico: One of the later opening restaurants. Nautico is in the neighbouring town of Binisafua, with gorgeous seafront views.
• Txoco Menorca: Also located in Binisafua, which has recently been renovated and given a new lease of life. Highly recommended.
• Sa Musclera: Found right in the middle of the stunning Binibeca Vell, and stays open until late October. Serving tapas with a local feel.
• Bambu: It usually closes around 19th October, so if you are visiting earlier in the month a perfect spot. Delicious small plates, grilled dishes & seafood with an Asian twist.

Where to Eat in Fornells

• Es Cranc: Simple and rustic, and the traditional lobster stew is a must-get! Open throughout October, but still recommended to book in advance.
• Can Tanu: A family-run fish restaurant that is open in October, although they do reduce their days, so do check in advance.

Where to Eat in Ciutadella

• Primitiu: Local and fresh ingredients, with secret ingredients that are said to be enjoyed as a ‘gastronomic experience’. Open from Wednesday to Saturday.
• Cas Cònsol: Lunch or dinner with a view over the port of Ciutadella. Mediterranean and Menorcan cuisine with a heavy emphasis on seafood.
• Restaurante Aquarium Port Ciutadella: Serving Mediterranean seafood, fresh fish, and signature rice dishes or paellas. Closed on Tuesdays.

Things to do in Menorca in October 2026

When visiting Menorca in October, here are some of the best things to do.

Walk the Cami de Cavalls

The Camí de Cavalls is one of the most popular activities in Menorca. This incredible pathway has existed since the 1300’s, when King James III required all settlers on the island to keep an armed horse at the ready to defend the island if needed. The settlers and their horses used the path to do so, hence Cami de Cavalls, which translates to ‘way of the horses’.Today, the path is divided into 20 sections; it is 185km long, and you can hike all or some of them. A full day is sufficient to walk one section and return by public transport.

With the temperatures being cooler, October is a great time to walk all or part of the Camí de Cavalls. The temperatures are comfortable throughout the day, making this a good time of year to walk.

Sunset at Cova d’en Xoroi

October is a good time to visit the famous cliffside cave bar of Cova d’en Xoroi, which is located at Cala en Porter. It is a natural cave which has been turned into a bar and is well worth a visit if it is your first time on the island. There are two options for visiting: during the day or at sunset. There are plenty of areas to sit and chat, carved into the side of the rock, making it the perfect place to head for sunset. The sunset is between 5:45 and 6:30 PM, and the atmosphere is electric. At this time of year, the evening air is cool, so make sure to bring a jacket.

It is a great time to go as the tickets are significantly cheaper than during the summer months.

One thing to note: Book your ticket in advance, particularly for the sunset slot, as this sells out regularly. During October, the caves open at 3 pm instead of in the morning, and it is open throughout the month.

Explore ciutadella and Mahon

With the temperatures being much cooler than the scorching heat of summer, October is a great time to explore Menorca’s two charming cities. Mahon, the capital, is home to the biggest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, and has a lovely old town, gin tasting, and some interesting museums. If it is a rainy day there are plenty of places to visit.

Ciutadella was the capital of the island before it was moved to Mahon, and is said to be the more charming of the two. Don’t miss the honey stone buildings, the impressive cathedral and some harbourside dining.

Wander the Inland Villages

Now that the heat has dropped, inland villages are great to explore in October on cooler days.

Ferreries is known for its whitewashed buildings, set against the hills behind. It has good access to both the north and south beaches. Plaça d’Espanya is the main town square with tapas restaurants, cafés, and ice cream shops.

Es Mercadal is a charming historic market town, right in the centre of the island at the foot of Monte Toro, the highest point in Menorca. It is known for its whitewashed streets and food culture.

The historic Alaior is a hilltop town that sits just off the ME-1, the main road that runs through Menorca. Its Old Town is built around the ancient hill of Ihalor, and has steep, narrow, winding medieval streets and whitewashed houses. Also known for the production of Menorcan cheese.

Visit Lithica

Lithica is a former quarry located on the west of the island, not far from Ciutadella. Saying you should spend time in a quarry as something to do in Menorca in October might sound a bit odd, but trust me, it is worth it! Until 1994, it supplied the marés stone used as the building material for much of western Menorca. Once production ended, instead of leaving it to mar the landscape, it was converted into a beautiful cultural space.

Today, you can wander the towering stone labyrinths and geometric gardens that fill the space. There is a massive stone labyrinth in the centre that is a bit of a workout for the brain, but the real highlight is the hidden Medieval Garden, which you discover by literally walking through a rock. October is a good time to visit as the days are cooler.

Take the Shuttle Boat to Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth is a contemporary art gallery which is located on Illa del Rei, which is a 15-minute boat ride from Mahon Harbour. Entry to the gardens and museum is free; you just need to pay for the shuttle boat over. The. museum itself is housed in an 18th-century naval building, and the gardens are designed by renowned landscaper Piet Oudolf. After wandering around the museum, have lunch in the restaurant on the island, Cantina, which serves small plates in the shade of the olive trees.

October is a great time to visit, as the crowds have lessened and the temperatures are cooler. But just be aware that the galleries’ opening times are reduced. It is open Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm. It shuts around 25th October.

Explore the Talayotic sites

Menorca is crammed full of prehistoric sites, with over 1,500 Talayotic settlements scattered across the island. First appearing nearly 3,000 years ago and were inhabited until the Romans arrived around 110 AD. These ancient villages are unlike anything else in the Mediterranean. Sites are categorised on-site as ‘must-sees’, ‘interesting sites’ and ‘other prehistoric sites’, with 13 and 17 in the first two categories, respectively.

The most distinctive feature is the Taula enclosure — a unique-to-Menorca T-shaped stone monument believed to have been used for worship. Other structures include circular dwellings, Talayots (thought to be used for surveillance) and Hypostyle Halls.

The summer heat can make open-air sites uncomfortable, but in October, the temperatures are ideal for spending time exploring. The sites are also far less crowded than in peak summer. Opening hours start to reduce from the summertime, so it is worth checking the specific sites.

Spot Migratory Birds at s’Albufera des Grau

S’Albufera des Grau is a beautiful natural park of more than 5,000 hectares of wetlands, wild olive trees and dune beaches that stretch from Mahón to Es Mercadal. Three marked trails run through the park, two starting at the Reception Centre with dedicated birdwatching hides, and a third running along the coast from Es Grau village. Entry is free, and October’s quiet conditions make it a lovely visit even for non-birdwatchers.

In October, S’Albufera des Grau becomes a stopover for migratory birds making their way south for the winter. Autumn migrants to look out for include flamingos and herons alongside year-round residents like Osprey, Egyptian Vulture and Peregrine Falcon.

Other Things to do in Menorca in October

There are, of course, other wonderful things that Menorca offers all year round that make for fantastic activities on the island. In October, these can be enjoyed at any time of the day, thanks to the lower temperatures and breeze. These include:

• Visit Binibeca Vell in the morning
• Head to Monte Toro, the highest point in Menorca, for panoramic views of the island
• Discover the Menorca lighthouses
• Visit the beaches. While October is less about lying on the sand, but more about walking between some of the stunning beaches and taking in the scenery. Plus a dip if you’re feeling brave.

Events in Menorca in October 2026

Alongside the fantastic things to do in Menorca in October, there are also a few events happening that will hopefully coincide with your visit, so you can experience another side of the island.

Mostra de Cuina Menorquina | 18 September – 4 October 2026

An event that aims to highlight Menorca’s gastronomic scene. It lasts over two weeks, and restaurants dotted all over the island prepare traditional Menorcan recipes. These are either cooked in the traditional style or with a modern twist, and feature mostly local and seasonal produce. Participating restaurants offer the ‘Menu Mostra’ for €20, or sometimes a freely priced Menu Gastronomico. The idea is that, through this, they can showcase their repertoire of dishes and showcase more elaborate food.

Fira Del Formatge Maó | 16 – 18 October 2026

A dedicated cheese festival held in Maó, celebrating Mahón-Menorca DOP cheese. It is held on the Esplanada in Maó with roughly 25 island producers, plus others from the European Cheese Route setting up stands. Find tastings, pairings, cooking demos from local chefs, talks from cheese experts, live music and kids’ activities.

8th Menorca Doc Fest | 20th October – 10th November 2026

An annuual film documentary film and photography festival and incldues screenings of documentaries, photographic exhibitions, workshops, lectures, awards and recognitions. It aims to use the media as tools for dissemination, awareness, and education. The festival takes place in various venues across Menorca and allows visitors to immerse themselves in Menorcan culture.

LINA & Marco Mezquida | 30th October 2026

Marco Mezquida is a well-known Menorcan jazz pianist, and with LINA_, one of Portugal’s leading contemporary fado singers. In October, he is bringing a critically acclaimed, internationally touring fado project home to Menorca. Performing in Teatre Principal de Maó, expect traditional melancholy and drama of fado from LINA_’s voice combined with Meezquida’s piano. It has been described as an unforgettable concert.

• Daytime layers: October days are pleasant, rather than hot. Pack T-shirts and light trousers or shorts for the first half of the month, with daily highs averaging around 21°C to 23°C. This drops to the high teens by the end.
• A proper layer for evening: Evenings are much cooler in October (around 15°C to 18°C). Bring a jumper, cardigan, or jacket for evenings out, particularly if you are eating outdoors.
• Swimwear: The sea is still swimmable, at around 20°C to 22°C in October, though noticeably cooler than September. It is still good for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding, if you don’t mind the cooler temps.
• Sun Protection: The sun is gentler than in high summer, but still worth packing SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. Especially if you’re spending the day out on a boat or walking the Camí de Cavalls
• A light rain layer: October does see some rainfall, so a lightweight, packable waterproof is useful. It won’t rain all day, but showers can appear quickly.

Things to Consider when Visiting Menorca in October

If you are planning to visit Menorca in October, here are a few final helpful pointers to ensure you have the best time.

• Swimming: The sea has cooled to around 20°C to 22°C in October, but swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding is still possible, although they work better on calmer, warmer afternoons. If you want to take a boat charter, make sure to book ahead as a lot of operators have finished for the year.
• Quieter Atmosphere: Many tourist resorts, shops, and restaurants may start to close, as the main season winds down.
• Variable Weather: While mostly sunny, there is still a chance of occasional light showers, so a jacket is recommended.
• Limited bus services: As mentioned throughout the guide, coastal bus routes have wound down in October. Car hire is strongly recommended to make the most of the island.
• Beach facilities: Many beach bars and chiringuitos have closed in October, so pack food and water for trips to more remote coves.
• Hiring a Car: Having your own transport remains the best way to explore Menorca at your own pace. While rental availability isn’t quite as frantic, booking a car in advance is still recommended to secure the best rates and vehicle choice.
• Sunset times: The clocks in Spain change on 25th October 2026. So the jump in sunset time is quick. At the beginning of the month it is around 7.15 pm, on 24th October at 6.40 pm, but on the 25th it is 5.40 pm.
• Reduced opening hours: Some attractions, boat tours and activity operators are now running on autumn rather than summer schedules. It’s worth checking ahead and booking in advance where possible.

Menorca in October vs Other Months

Menorca in October is a great time to visit if you are after a cooler, quieter break and a wonderful low-key time to visit. Here is how it compares to other months:

• January–March: The island is at its quietest, with many businesses closed and limited transport. Fine for a peaceful escape, but not ideal for first-time visitors.
• April: The season wakes up. Quieter beaches, lower prices and great conditions for walking and sightseeing. The trade-off is cooler evenings, a chilly sea and some limited facilities.
• May & June: The sweet spots either side of peak season. Everything is open, the sun is out, and the beaches are far quieter than in July. Perfect if you want the Menorca experience without the peak-season crowds and prices. But you’ll miss the electric atmosphere July brings.
• July & August: Menorca at full volume. The sea is at its warmest, the fiestas are spectacular, there is more going on than any other month, and the atmosphere is electric. The trade-off is serious heat, peak crowds and the highest prices of the year.
• September: The second sweet spot. You get the best of all worlds: the sea is still wonderfully warm from the summer sun, the weather is comfortably warm rather than scorching, the massive peak-season crowds thin out significantly, and prices begin to drop. It retains a vibrant social atmosphere while letting you actually breathe and enjoy the island.
• October: The wind-down of the season. Early October can still bring gorgeous beach days and mild weather, but by the end of the month, tourist facilities start closing up for the winter as the island shifts back to its peaceful rhythm.
• November–December: The island winds down significantly.

Menorca in October: The verdict

Menorca in October is a great time to visit if you want the ideal balance of a calm island with pleasant weather. Peak season is long gone, prices are down, and the pace slows right off. The days are still mild enough for walking, exploring, and possibly even a swim. The evenings are starting to feel very autumnal, and it is a step down in warmth from September. But a perfect time to visit if you want peace, value and calm.

The weather is still warm, but it is no longer ideal for a beach holiday. Ideal if you want to do more exploring and don’t mind the odd rainy day. The crowds have left, the prices have dropped from peak season, and the pace of the island has slowed right down.

Just be aware it might require a little more planning in regard to opening times, restaurants and activity availability.
