Is Menorca in June a Good Time to Visit?

June is possibly the best time to visit Menorca. It is the perfect balance of beautiful weather and guaranteed sunshine-filled days, but not quite hitting peak summer season. The weather is more reliable than in May. And while the crowds are starting to arrive, it hasn’t quite hit the level you can expect in July and August.

The local restaurants and businesses are fully open for the season, but you still stand a chance of getting tables and spots at the best places.

How to get to Menorca in June

The quickest way to start your holiday is to fly into Menorca Airport (MAH), located just 5km from the capital, Mahรณn.

By June, the season is well underway, so flight frequency is significantly higher, and you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.

How to get around Menorca in June

In June, Menorcaโ€™s transport network is in full summer swing. The island-wide bus services operate at peak frequency, with dedicated shuttles (like the ones from Ciutadella to the southern coves) running regularly to keep up with the pre-summer crowd.

However, as always in Menorca, if you want the freedom to explore at your own pace and discover some off-the-beaten-track spots, hiring a car is still the best option. Itโ€™s the only way to reach the remote trailheads of the Camรญ de Cavalls or inland villages like Ferreries at your own pace. As things are getting busier on the island, car parking spots get full quickly at popular beaches. Aim to get there first thing to guarantee a spot.

This handy guide will help you with all you need to know about hiring a car in Menorca: Hiring A Car in Menorca: Everything You Need to Know

For solo travellers or couples, hiring a scooter is a fantastic alternative. Itโ€™s arguably the best way to navigate the narrow streets of Ciutadella and Mao, and youโ€™ll often find dedicated motorcycle parking spots that cars can’t fit into, which is a huge plus as the June crowds grow.

If you don’t want to drive, there are still a few options. The bus route between the two main cities, Mahรณn and Ciutadella, does run year-round. There are taxis available from Mahรณn and Ciutadella. Pre-booking a private transfer from the airport works well for arrivals.

Weather in Menorca in June

June marks the official arrival of summer in Menorca. The island has long, warm days, and the landscape remains green ahead of the peak heat of late summer. It is often regarded as the most pleasant time for a visit, with the perfect balance of beach-ready weather and comfortable conditions for exploring the islandโ€™s historic towns and coastal paths.

  • Temperatures: Daytime highs typically reach a warm 25ยฐC โ€“ 26ยฐC, though heatwaves can occasionally push temperatures toward 30ยฐC. Evenings are comfortably mild, with lows averaging around 16ยฐC โ€“ 19ยฐC.
  • Sunshine: You can expect an average of 10 to 11 hours of bright sunshine per day. Plenty of time to soak up the Mediterranean rays.
  • Rainfall: June is one of the driest months of the year. Rainfall is minimal, averaging just 15mm to 17mm across the entire month, typically occurring over only 5 days as brief, light showers.
  • Sea Temperature: The water warms up significantly to around 21ยฐC โ€“ 22ยฐC, making it a very inviting time for swimming, snorkelling, and boat trips.
  • Winds: Light sea breezes are common, providing a refreshing relief from the afternoon sun and maintaining ideal conditions for sailing and coastal hikes.

Things to do in Menorca in June 2026

When visiting Menorca in June, here are some of the best things to do.

Visit the Beaches

With over 90 beaches to choose from, there is a beach for every season, and there are some special ones in June. The sea temperature is around 21ยฐC in June, making swimming the perfect refreshing experience. The beaches are quieter compared to the summer, but they have started to get busy. So, particularly if you are visiting one of the more popular beaches, make sure to get there early to ensure a parking spot. It is a great time to visit the beaches to spend a whole day there.

Swimmers enjoying the translucent turquoise water at Cala Mitjana, frequently cited as one of the best beaches in Menorca, framed by towering white limestone cliffs and pine trees.

June is a great time to visit the beaches of Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta. The white limestone floor reflects the high June sun, which turns the water a neon turquoise that you wouldn’t see in the cooler months.

By June, all of the beach bars have reopened for the season, so you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat without having to pack your own supplies if you head to one of the more accessible beaches. Bus services to coastal areas are also up and running, though hiring a car still gives you the freedom to reach the quieter, more remote coves at your own pace.

Sunset at Cova dโ€™en Xoroi

For a memorable Menorcan experience, head to Cova dโ€™en Xoroi. A natural cave located in Cala en Porter, which has been turned into a bar. There are three options for visiting: during the day, at sunset, and at night. There are plenty of areas to sit and chat, carved into the side of the rock, making it the perfect place to head for sunset. The bar opens in May, but June is when it is at its best. With the sun setting at its latest point in the year (around 9:20 PM), the “Sunset Sessions” are spectacular. In June, the evening temperature is perfect. It is warm enough to stay out late but without the stifling humidity of August. It is arguably the most famous bar in the Balearics for a reason.

You need a ticket for each session, so even if you head for sunset, you will need to leave and re-enter as they turn it into the nightclub if you want to stay for the evening session. Inside the caves are dancefloors and DJs set up for dancing.

Full-Day Boat Charter to the “Virgin” Coves

By June, the sea temperature has reached a comfortable 21ยฐC, making it more than warm enough to swim and snorkel. And while many of Menorca’s most beautiful coves are accessible on foot or by car, June is one of the best months to see them from the water. Renting a classic Menorcan llaut (traditional boat) allows you to snorkel in the turquoise waters of Cala Macarelleta and Cala Turqueta without needing to navigate the now-crowded parking lots on land.

Drop anchor at Cala Macarelleta, one of the most breathtaking spots on the south coast, and you’ll have turquoise water so clear you can see the seabed from the boat. Cala Turqueta, Cala Mitjana and Cala en Turqueta are equally stunning and equally rewarding when approached from the sea. A full day on the water typically includes time to swim, snorkel, enjoy lunch on board and explore several coves in one trip.

Top Tip: Even in June, these trips can get booked up fast, so make sure to book your trip, such as THIS ONE, well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Star Gazing in a Starlight Destination

Menorca is one of the few places in the Mediterranean to hold a certified Starlight Destination status. This means its commitment to protecting dark skies is officially recognised. June is a particularly great time to experience this, as the skies are clear, the evenings are mild, and the summer solstice brings a unique quality of light that makes the transition from golden sunset to star-filled sky feel almost theatrical. The rugged north coast near the Cavalleria Lighthouse is one of the best spots on the island to take it all in, far enough from town lights to give you an uninterrupted view of the night sky.

Afternoon Siesta and Late-Night Tapas in Mahรณn

June is when Menorca fully transforms into its Mediterranean pace of life. As temperatures climb through the middle of the day, locals retreat indoors for a long siesta, and it’s well worth following their lead. Save your energy for the evening, because that’s when the island really comes alive.

Head to the Mercat des Peix in Mahรณn after 8 pm and you’ll find one of the most atmospheric spots on the island. This beautiful 1927 iron-framed building, which was originally the town’s fish market, transforms into a buzzing evening destination, with tapas stalls, local wines, Menorcan craft beers and a lively crowd of locals and visitors mixing in equal measure.

Cheese Tasting at Hort Sant Patrici

Mahรณn-Menorca cheese is one of the island’s most celebrated exports, and there’s no better place to understand why than at Hort Sant Patrici. This is a working farm and estate near Ferreries that has been producing artisan cheese for generations. While cheese tours happen year-round, June is a great time to visit the beautiful gardens of the Sant Patrici estate. You can pair their famous Mahรณn-Menorca cheese with their own locally produced rosรฉ wineโ€”the perfect refreshing drink for a warm June afternoon.

Visit Binibeca Vell

In June, Binibeca Vell is coming alive, with the bougainvillaea in full, explosive purple bloom, which looks stunning against the white walls of the town. Itโ€™s the most photogenic month for this village. Make sure to go early in the morning (before 10:00 AM) to beat the crowds that start arriving more frequently in June.

Explore the “Lunar” North Coast

If the southern beaches are starting to feel busy, June is the perfect time to head North to Cala Pregonda. The landscape here is unlike anywhere else on the island, with russet-red sand, jagged rock formations and a wild, unspoiled feel that looks like Mars. The 30-minute hike from the car park is much more enjoyable in the June breeze than in the July heat.

Other Things to do in Menorca in June

There are, of course, other wonderful things that Menorca offers all year round that make for fantastic activities on the island. These include:

  • Exploring Cituadella
  • Taking a wander around Lithica Quarry
  • Exploring Menorca’s harbour towns
  • Discovering the windmills

Events in Menorca in June 2026

Alongside the fantastic things to do in Menorca in June, there are also several events happening that will hopefully coincide with your visit, so you can experience another side to the island.

Tuesday Night Market in Mahon

From 24 June, Mahรณn’s historic streets come alive every Tuesday evening with Music Nights. This is a free, open-air celebration of live music that runs through the summer. The Tuesday Night Market also launches at the same time, where the old town is filled with artisan stalls, food vendors and a buzzing atmosphere. So if your trip falls in the last week of June, make sure you’re in town on a Tuesday evening for what is one of the most enjoyable free nights out on the island. All around the city, small stages and local performers are singing and playing music. A lovely way to spend an evening.

Festes de Sant Joan (Ciutadella) | June 23 โ€“ June 24, 2026

June marks the beginning of the Menorca Fiesta season, and it starts with the Festes de Sant Joan in Ciutadella. This Menorca fiesta is widely considered the jewel in the crown of the Menorcan fiesta calendar. As the first fiesta of the season, it has a real sense of excitement and anticipation, and the whole island seems to come alive for it. Ciutadella is already one of the most beautiful towns in Menorca, and seeing it dressed up for its biggest celebration of the year makes it even more special.

It is a UNESCO-recognised celebration that has taken place in Ciutadella for over 700 years. The two-day festival is centred around the island’s magnificent black Menorquรญn horses, whose riders, known as caixers, guide them through dense crowds, performing the iconic jaleo where the horses rear up on their hind legs as people try to touch the horse’s heart for good luck. The streets of Ciutadella’s old town become the stage for medieval pageantry, religious processions, live music and an atmosphere unlike anything else on the island. If you’re visiting Menorca in June, timing your trip around Sant Joan is absolutely worth it.

The “Dia des Be” (Day of the Lamb) | June 21, 2026

The festivities actually begin before the main Sant Joan weekend with the Dia des Be on 21 June. This centuries-old ceremony sees a young man dressed in sheepskin, which represents a shepherd, being carried through the streets of Ciutadella on the shoulders of a caixer. It’s a deeply traditional and moving spectacle that marks the official opening of the Sant Joan celebrations. It is a quieter and more intimate occasion than the festival before the main event takes over.

San Juan Fireworks | June 25, 2026

The Sant Joan festivities close with a bang on 25 June, when fireworks light up the sky over Ciutadella. It’s a fitting and joyful end to one of the most extraordinary festivals in the Mediterranean, and a perfect final night if you’ve timed your June visit around the celebrations.

Summer Solstice Celebrations | June 21, 2026

The longest day of the year falls on 21 June, and in Menorca, it is special. With sunset after 9 pm and the island’s Starlight Destination status ensuring dark, clear skies, the transition from the longest day to a star-filled night is a sight to witness. Head to the north coast near Cavalleria Lighthouse to make the most of it. Bring a picnic, watch the sun go down and stay for the stars.

Regata Menorca Sant Joan | 18โ€“20 June 2026

Even if sailing isn’t your thing, the arrival of the Regata Menorca Sant Joan into Mahรณn harbour is a spectacular sight. The event is organised by the Real Club Nรกutico de Barcelona and the Club Marรญtimo de Mahรณn, and is held every June as part of the San Juan festivities in Menorca. This prestigious offshore regatta departs from Barcelona and covers 140 nautical miles, with boats arriving in Mahรณn ahead of the Sant Joan celebrations.

The harbour fills with impressive ocean-going yachts, and there is a great atmosphere around the waterfront in the days before Sant Joan. It also dovetails beautifully with the harbour boat parade, making the third week of June an exciting time to be based in Mahรณn.

What to Wear in Menorca in June

  • Light Summer Clothes: June is firmly summer. So pack t-shirts, shorts, sundresses and sandals for daytime. Temperatures regularly reach 25ยฐC+ so dress accordingly.
  • A Light Layer for Evenings: Evenings are warm, but a light cardigan or thin jacket is worth having for after-dinner harbour strolls, particularly earlier in the month.
  • Swimwear: Pack plenty, as you will be using it. The sea reaches around 22ยฐC in June, warm enough for comfortable swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. If you’re planning a boat charter, bring water shoes too, as some coves have rocky entries.
  • Sun Protection: June sun is strong, especially on the water and at open coastal sites. High SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential.

Things to Consider when Visiting Menorca in June

If you are planning to visit Menorca in June, here are a few final helpful pointers to ensure you have the best time.

  • Swimming: The sea reaches around 22ยฐC in June. It is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. If you’re planning a boat charter to the south coast coves, this is the month it really comes into its own.
  • Crowds: June is noticeably busier than May, particularly around Sant Joan weekend when Ciutadella fills up significantly. Popular beaches and restaurants book out quickly, so planning is essential.
  • Sun: June sun is strong, especially on the water and at open coastal sites. High SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are definitely required. Try to plan strenuous outdoor activities for the morning rather than the middle of the day.
  • Siestas: Many shops and some restaurants close in the early afternoon. Join in and rest during the hottest part of the day and save your energy for the long evenings.
  • Beach Facilities: Beach bars and chiringuitos are fully open across the island by June, including at most of the popular south coast coves. For the most remote spots, it’s still worth bringing water.
  • Sunset times: The summer solstice falls on 21 June, meaning sunsets push past 9:15 pm, the longest evenings of the year. Make the most of them.
  • Booking Ahead: June is busy and getting busier. Book boat charters, restaurant tables and any guided tours well in advance, particularly around the Sant Joan festival weekend when accommodation and experiences across the island fill up fast.
  • Sant Joan Planning: If your trip coincides with 23โ€“24 June, be aware that Ciutadella is extremely busy and some roads are closed. It’s an unmissable experience, but plan your accommodation and transport.

Menorca in June vs Other Months

June is quite possibly the golden time to visit Menorca. You get the full feel of the summer season and the warmest Mediterranean colours, but you avoid the overwhelming humidity and peak crowds of August. Here is how it compares to the rest of the year:

  • Januaryโ€“March: The island is at its quietest, with many businesses closed and limited transport. Fine for a peaceful escape, but not ideal for first-time visitors.
  • April: The season begins to wake up. Quieter beaches, lower prices, wildflowers everywhere and great conditions for walking, cycling and sightseeing. The trade-off is cooler evenings, a chilly sea and some limited facilities.
  • May: A beautiful bridge into summer, and a sweet spot. Everything is open, the sun is out, and the beaches are still largely empty. Itโ€™s perfect if you prefer peace over a buzzing atmosphere. But there are cooler evenings and the chance of rain showers.
  • June: This is when the island truly feels “alive.” The sea temperature has finally hit that comfortable 22ยฐC mark, the days are at their longest, and the famous festivals bring a unique cultural energy you won’t find in any other month. It’s the best choice for those who want a “hot” holiday without the August “heatwave.”
  • Julyโ€“August: Peak season. The island is busy, prices are at their highest, and the most popular beaches and roads can feel overcrowded. Temperatures regularly push 30ยฐC, making long walks and cycling uncomfortable.
  • Septemberโ€“October: A second sweet spot. Still warm, sea temperature at its best, crowds thinning out, and prices dropping.
  • Novemberโ€“December: Similar to winter, the island winds down significantly.

The verdict: Menorca in June is the ultimate choice for travellers who want the quintessential Mediterranean summer experience without the peak-August intensity. With the sea finally warm enough for all-day swimming, the sun setting at its latest point in the year, and the fabulous energy of the Sant Joan festivals, the island is at its absolute peak. June offers the perfect balance of heat, culture, and coastal magic.
