Planning a trip to Menorca in August? You are in for a fabulous time! Think blazing sunshine, crystal-clear waters, beaches at their most beautiful, and a buzzing atmosphere with every restaurant, bar and beach club. The Menorca fiestas are legendary and in full swing, the sunsets are long and golden, and the island is just a wonderful place to be. There is so much going on during this month, with activities happening throughout the month, making it a fabulous month to visit!

However, it is best to come prepared. Visiting Menorca in August means you are travelling at potentially the hottest time of the year for the island, and also the busiest. Temperatures regularly push into the mid-to-high 30s, the most popular beaches can get crowded by mid-morning, and you’ll want to book everything well in advance. But with a little planning (which is exactly what this guide is for), August is an absolutely brilliant time to visit. Is Menorca in August a Good Time to Visit?

If you love heat and sunshine, Menorca in August absolutely delivers. Temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 30s during the day, making it the hottest month of the year on the island, and while evenings are warm and balmy, don’t expect much of a cool-down after dark. The sea is glorious though, reaching around 25-26°C, which makes it wonderfully refreshing.

August is firmly peak season, so it’s worth going in with realistic expectations. The most popular beaches get busy early, accommodation prices are at their highest, and you’ll need to book everything well ahead of time. If you’re after a quieter, slightly cooler Menorca experience, July or September are worth considering. But if August is your window, you can absolutely have a brilliant trip. It just takes a bit more planning, a willingness to explore the lesser-known beaches, and an early start to enjoy the beaches when they aren’t too hot.

I would also highly recommend embracing the Spanish siesta way of life! Avoid the midday heat of the sun, and enjoy the island in the morning and late afternoon onwards.

How to get to Menorca in August

The only airport on the island is Menorca Airport (MAH), which is located just 5km from the capital, Mahón. In August, there are very regular flights, so you are guaranteed to find one that works for you.

• From the UK: Direct flights take about 2 hours and 20 minutes. In 2026, major carriers like easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, and British Airways will operate some routes from London (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton) and regional hubs like Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh and Belfast.
• From Europe: You’ll find daily direct connections from major Spanish cities like Barcelona (55 mins) and Madrid (1h 30m), as well as seasonal routes from Paris, Milan, and Berlin.

At this time of year, you’ll have the widest choice of flights of the entire year, with routes running at full summer frequency. The trade-off is that prices are at their peak, so if you haven’t booked yet, get in quick.

How to get around Menorca in August

In August, Menorca’s transport network is still in full summer swing. The island-wide bus services operate at peak frequency, with dedicated shuttles (like the ones from Ciutadella to the southern coves) running regularly to keep up with the summer crowd.

However, as always with Menorca, if you want the freedom to explore at your own pace and find some of the off-the-beaten-track spots, hiring a car is still the best option. It’s the only way to reach the remote trailheads of the Camí de Cavalls or inland villages like Ferreries at your own pace. As Menorca in August is at its busiest, car parking spots get full very quickly at most beaches. The only way to guarantee a spot is to get there early.

For solo travellers or couples, hiring a scooter is a fantastic alternative. It’s arguably the best way to navigate the narrow streets of Ciutadella and Mao, and you’ll often find dedicated motorcycle parking spots that cars can’t fit into, which is a huge plus in the peak August crowds.

If you don’t want to drive, there are still a few options. The bus route between the two main cities, Mahón and Ciutadella, does run year-round. There are taxis available from Mahón and Ciutadella. Pre-booking a private transfer from the airport works well for arrivals.

Weather in Menorca in August

Menorca in August is the very peak of summer. The island is at its absolute hottest, with long, dry days, intense midday sun, and warm evenings that stretch well into the night. It’s classic Mediterranean summer weather, but definitely at the hotter end of the scale! It’s brilliant if you’re after a proper beach holiday, though I wouldn’t recommend sightseeing and hiking during the midday heat. Embrace early starts and siestas!

• Temperatures: Daytime highs typically reach 31 – 34°C, and heatwaves can push temperatures even higher. Evenings remain very warm, with lows averaging around 23 –25°C. Great for long dinners al fresco, though don’t expect a cool breeze.
• Sunshine: Expect around 10 to 11 hours of sunshine per day, with largely cloudless skies throughout the month.
• Rainfall: August is one of the driest months of the year. Rainfall is minimal, averaging just 5 to 10mm across the entire month, and rain is a rare occurrence, though occasional short thunderstorms can appear towards the end of the month.
• Sea Temperature: The water reaches a lovely 24°C – 25°C, making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling and boat trips to the coves.
• Winds: The Tramuntana wind occasionally picks up from the north, which can offer some welcome relief on the very hottest days.

Things to do in Menorca in August 2026

When visiting Menorca in August, here are some of the best things to do.

Visit the Beaches

In Menorca in August, there is really nothing better to do than check out one of the many stunning beaches. The water is a blissful 24°C, the sun is hot, and the colours are incredible. However, given that it is August, the trade-off is the crowds. Popular spots like Cala Mijitana fill up fast, so arriving before 9 am is essential to guarantee a parking spot. Indeed, a lot of the beaches prevent parking during the peak months (such as Cala Macarella), so you need to factor in a walk or a shuttle bus. It’s worth it, though; there is nowhere quite like a Menorcan beach on an August morning, but definitely do your research.

Some of the beaches are quieter, due to being harder to access. Some to check out are:

• Cala Macarelleta, which does require a walk along the Cami de Cavalls, but is often quieter than its neighbour Cala Macarella.
• Trebalúger is only accessible by foot or kayak, meaning it can be less crowded.
• Cala Rafalet: A tiny rocky inlet hidden near S’Algar. It does not have much sand, but it features deep turquoise water and great snorkelling.
• Cala Escorxada: A beautiful white-sand beach. You can hike there from Santo Tomás in about 45 to 60 minutes. It stays very peaceful because of this walk.

Sundowner on Binibeca Nou Beach

If getting up early to head to the beach isn’t your thing, one of the best things to do is to head to the beach for an early evening dip, followed by a sundowner drink at a beachside bar. Binibeca Nou is home to Bucaneros, a gorgeous little white building with a thatched roof perched right on the edge of the sea.

Other beachside bars worth checking out include:

• Es Bruc on Santo Tomás beach, a Menorcan institution and one of the most well-known chiringuitos on the island, is ideal for a long leisurely meal overlooking the sea.
• Aire on Punta Prima, one of Menorca’s trendiest beachfront bars with a modern vibe, great cocktails and live DJ sets.
• Xiringuito Tirant on the quieter north coast near Fornells, a rustic and peaceful beachfront bar. The perfect spot to unwind with a beer after a swim.

Sunset at Cova d’en Xoroi

August is still peak season for the famous cliffside cave bar of Cova d’en Xoroi, which is located at Cala en Porter. A natural cave, which has been turned into a bar, is well worth a visit if it is your first time on the island. There are three options for visiting: during the day, at sunset, and at night. There are plenty of areas to sit and chat, carved into the side of the rock, making it the perfect place to head for sunset. At this time of year, the evening air is warm, the sunset is between 8:30 and 9 PM, and the atmosphere is electric. The nightclub sessions afterwards are legendary in summer.

You need a ticket for each session, so even if you head for sunset, you will need to leave and re-enter as they turn it into the nightclub if you want to stay for the evening session. Inside the caves are dancefloors and DJs set up for dancing.

One thing to note: Book your ticket in advance, particularly for the sunset slot, as this sells out regularly in August.

Full-Day Boat Charter

In August, chartering a boat is one of the best things you can do. The beaches are getting busy, so this is the perfect way to explore the coastline without the crowds. It is the best way to reach the most beautiful coves, such as Cala Macarelleta, Cala Turqueta, and Cala en Turqueta, without battling the parking queues or having a long walk. Drop anchor, snorkel in the clearest water of the year, and enjoy lunch on board. Book well ahead as these sell out fast in peak season.

Evening Dining and Nightlife in Mahón and Ciutadella

August is when Menorca’s towns truly come alive after dark. Both Mahón and Ciutadella are full of life well past midnight, with restaurants, bars and live music filling the squares and harbour fronts. Embrace the late-night culture and book a restaurant for 9 pm, enjoy a long dinner, and relax into the evening.

Northern beaches via boat from Fornells

Beaches such as Cala Pregonda and Playa de Cavalleria on the north coast might get a breeze from the Tramuntana wind, which makes them a little more comfortable on very hot days than the sheltered south coast coves that can feel like a heat trap. If it is a very hot day, it might be a good time to head to the north of the island.

Swim off the Rocks

Some places in Menorca aren’t traditional beaches, but more rocky platforms, such as Ses Olles in Binisafua or Cala en Brut. These are often less crowded than the main sandy beaches and feel cooler, and you can jump straight in without the trek across hot sand. They are popular with the locals, who grab a towel and bring some music and drinks to enjoy the day, jumping in and out of the water.

Have lunch under the vines at Binifadet Vineyard

Did you know Menorca also produces its own wine? Binifdadet is the largest vineyard on the island and was opened in 2004. You book a one-hour guided tour to find out all about the vineyard, or, if you prefer, explore on your own at your own pace. The vineyard also offers wine tasting. It has a wonderful restaurant on site, which serves the most delicious food on the terrace under the vines. The perfect way to escape the midday heat in August!

There are, of course, other wonderful things that Menorca offers all year round that make for fantastic activities on the island. In August, these are best enjoyed in the cooler hours of the morning or early evening rather than the midday heat. These include:

Events in Menorca in August 2026

Menorca in August is absolutely jam-packed with events and festivities happening all over the island. Meaning that at least one should coincide with your visit. A fantastic way to celebrate the island during its peak!

Festes de Sant Cristòfol (Es Mignorn Gran) | 1–2 August 2026

By August, the Menorca Fiesta season is in full swing. The first fiesta of the month is the Festes de Sant Cristòfol in Es Mignorn Gran. This is usually a quiet village, but this changes dramatically during the two fiesta days. The Jaleo is held in the small square, and there is a whole programme of activities.

Menorca Music Festival | 1-9 August 2026

Now in its fifth year, the Menorca Music Festival is the island’s biggest pop and rock event, held across seven evenings at the Recinte Firal d’Es Mercadal, a former artillery barracks right in the heart of the island. The 2026 lineup is predominantly Spanish artists, though the closing night on 9 August features God Save the Queen, a well-known Queen tribute act that will feel very familiar to British visitors. Each night also features a local Menorcan artist as support. You can buy individual night tickets or multi-night passes.

Festes de Sant Gaietà (Llucmaçanes) | 8–9 August 2026

The second of the fiestas in August is the Festes de Sant Gaietà in Llucmaçanes. Set in the heart of the Menorcan countryside, where locals open their doors to share their beloved festivities. Llucmaçanes is a small village found only 3 KM from Mahon. But, while small, the fiesta will still feature music and the Jaleo.

Witness the Solar Eclipse | 12 August 2026

On 12 August 2026, Menorca will experience a total solar eclipse, starting at 7:37 pm, with totality from around 8:30 pm for just over a minute. Because the eclipse happens so close to sunset, the west coast of the island will have truly unique lighting, with an open sea and the north Majorca mountains as a backdrop.

Ukalari Menorca Live | 12 -22 August 2026

Brand new for 2026, Ukalari Menorca Live is the island’s most ambitious music and entertainment festival to date. Running for over a week at the Estadio del Sporting Mahonés in Mahón, it brings a hugely varied lineup spanning pop, electrolatino, tribute shows and nostalgia nights. Something different is on almost every evening, with big Spanish names alongside tribute acts and comedy. The opening night on 12 August coincides with the solar eclipse, making it a very special start to the festival. Tickets are available per night or as multi-night passes, with bus services running from across the island.

Festes de Sant Llorenç (Alaior) | 15–16 August 2026

The town of Alaior is found right in the centre of Menorca, and its patron saint festival is one of the most spectacular on the island. Bigger than many of the village fiestas, Sant Llorenç features the full Jaleo in the main square, a magnificent parade of floats on the Sunday evening with over 800 participants, and the traditional horse racing at Es Cós. If you are in Menorca during this time, it is well worth a visit.

Festes de Sant Climent (Sant Climent) | 22–23 August 2026

Sant Climent is a small, charming village just a few kilometres from Mahón, and its patron saint festival is one of my personal favourites. As a regular visitor to the area, I always try to attend this fiesta. It has everything you would hope for from a traditional Menorcan fiesta: the Jaleo in the village square, the Caixers on horseback, music, and that wonderful sense of a whole community coming together to celebrate. Smaller and more intimate than the bigger town fiestas, it is a really special evening.

Festes de Sant Bartomeu (Ferreries) | 23–24 August 2026

Ferreries is a pretty town in the heart of the island, and its patron saint festival is one with a lovely, distinctive twist. As well as the traditional Jaleo, Caixers on horseback and the full cavalcade through the streets, Sant Bartomeu features the charming Jaleo d’Ases, where young locals recreate the Jaleo on donkeys rather than horses. It is great fun and a real crowd-pleaser. A wonderful fiesta to stumble upon if you are in Menorca at this time.

Vela Clásica Menorca | 25-29 August

One of the most beautiful events on the Menorcan calendar, the Vela Clásica is a regatta of stunning historic and restored classic sailing yachts, held in the magnificent natural harbour of Mahón. Watching these elegant boats race is a spectacular sight, and the harbour atmosphere during the week is wonderful. If you are in Menorca at the end of August, it is well worth heading down to the waterfront to watch.

Festes de Sant Lluís (Sant Lluís) | 29–30 August 2026

Sant Lluís is a charming whitewashed village in the south of Menorca, and its patron saint festival is one I have also been lucky enough to attend. The Jaleo here is wonderfully intimate, winding through the narrow village streets, and I will never forget watching a horse being ridden in and out of a local house as part of the celebrations. It perfectly captures the magic of these fiestas, where the whole community throws open its doors, and the horses are very much part of everyday life for those two days.

Open Air Cinemas

During August, one of the simple pleasures is to find a cinema à la Fresca. These are open-air cinema nights held in town squares and public spaces across the island during the warm summer evenings. Ferreries is a reliable spot, with screenings at the Auditorium terrace on Sunday evenings. Films are shown under the stars, and it is a lovely, low-key way to spend an evening. Check local noticeboards and town hall websites for schedules once you arrive.

53è Festival de Música Estiu Maó

Now in its 53rd year, this is one of Menorca’s most long-standing cultural events. Organised by Joventuts Musicals de Maó, it brings a programme of classical and chamber music performances to historic venues in Mahón across the summer months. A wonderful way to spend an evening in the capital. Check the programme at joventutsmusicalsdemao.cat for dates and venues.

Tuesday Night Market in Mahon

Continuing in August, Mahón’s historic streets come alive every Tuesday evening with Music Nights. This is a free, open-air celebration of live music that runs through the summer. The Tuesday Night Market also launches at the same time, where the old town is filled with artisan stalls, food vendors and a buzzing atmosphere. So if you are in Menorca on a Tuesday, make sure you head to Mahon for the evening to enjoy what is one of the most enjoyable free nights out on the island. All around the city, small stages and local performers are singing and playing music. A lovely way to spend an evening.

Plaça des Born Night Market (Ciutadella)

Continuing in August, Plaça des Born Night Market is a craft market in Ciutadella’s grand main square. In August, it runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 pm to midnight. Stalls sell handicrafts, fabrics, leather bags and jewellery. It’s a lovely summer evening out in one of the most beautiful squares on the island.

Night Markets

As well as the Tuesday markets in Mahón and the Plaça des Born market in Ciutadella, several other towns run their own versions throughout August. Es Castell has a lovely Monday night market along the pedestrian area above the Cales Fonts harbour, combining artisan crafts, jewellery and food with the harbour bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Alaior runs a Tuesday evening market on Carrer Major, and Ferreries has a Friday night market in Plaça de España with live music. Worth checking what is on in whichever part of the island you are staying.

• Light Summer Clothes: August is the hottest month in Menorca, so pack t-shirts, shorts, sundresses and sandals for daytime. Temperatures regularly reach 32°C+ so light, breathable fabrics are essential.
• Swimwear: as you will be using it every day. The sea reaches around 26°C in August, perfect for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. If you’re planning a boat charter, bring water shoes too, as some coves have rocky entries.
• Sun Protection: The August sun is fierce, especially on the water and at open coastal sites. High SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential.

If you are planning to visit Menorca in August, here are a few final helpful pointers to ensure you have the best time.

• Swimming: The sea reaches around 25°C–26°C in August, the warmest it gets all year. The warmest it gets all year. It is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. If you’re planning a boat charter to the south coast coves, August is arguably the best month to do it.
• Crowds: August is peak season. Popular beaches fill up before 9 am, and restaurants book out days in advance. Planning and booking ahead is essential.
• Heat: Temperatures regularly hit 32°C+ in August and can feel significantly hotter in direct sun. Plan strenuous activities such as hiking, sightseeing and exploring towns for early morning only. The middle of the day is best spent in the shade with a long lunch or a siesta.
• Sun: UV levels in August are extremely high, particularly on the water. High SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are non-negotiable. Reapply regularly.
• Beach Car Parks: Worth knowing that many of the most popular beach car parks in Menorca close to non-residents during August peak hours, typically mid-morning through to late afternoon. Arrive early or be prepared to park further away and walk.
• Hiring a Car: August is the month you’ll feel the benefit of hiring a car the most. Having your own transport gives you the flexibility to arrive at beaches early, explore quieter spots and escape the crowds. Book well in advance as availability gets tight..
• Sunset times: Sunsets fall around 8:30 pm–9:00 pm, depending on the time of month, giving you warm golden evenings perfect for sundowners at a beachside bar or a late dinner al fresco.
• Booking Ahead: Book boat charters, restaurant tables, hire cars and guided tours as far in advance as possible. August is the month when things fill up faster than any other month.
• Fiesta Planning: August is the richest month for fiestas in Menorca. If your trip coincides with any of them, plan your transport and accommodation around them. Each one is worth experiencing, but the towns get very busy.

Menorca in August vs Other Months

Menorca in August is peak season. The hottest, busiest and most vibrant month of the year. It’s not the best-kept secret, but for many visitors it’s exactly what they’re after, and with the right planning it can be a brilliant trip. Here is how it compares to the rest of the year:

• January–March: The island is at its quietest, with many businesses closed and limited transport. Fine for a peaceful escape, but not ideal for first-time visitors.
• April: The season wakes up. Quieter beaches, lower prices and great conditions for walking and sightseeing. The trade-off is cooler evenings, a chilly sea and some limited facilities.
• May & June: The sweet spots either side of peak season. Everything is open, the sun is out, and the beaches are far quieter than in July. Perfect if you want the Menorca experience without the peak-season crowds and prices. But you’ll miss the electric atmosphere July brings.
• July: A strong alternative to Menorca in August. Still hot, still busy, but slightly cooler and marginally quieter than August. The fiestas are in full swing, the beach bars are buzzing, and the evenings stretch on beautifully. If you have flexibility, July is worth considering.
• August: Menorca at full volume. The sea is at its warmest, the fiestas are spectacular, there is more going on than any other month, and the atmosphere is electric. The trade-off is serious heat, peak crowds and the highest prices of the year. But with an early start, a siesta mindset and everything booked well in advance, August can absolutely deliver the Mediterranean summer you are dreaming of.
• September–October: A second sweet spot. Still warm, sea temperature at its best, crowds thinning, and prices dropping.
• November–December: The island winds down significantly.

Menorca in August: The verdict

Menorca in August is an excellent choice, as there are so many festivals and activities on the island. There is a real energy to the place, as well as a beautiful, warm sea, packed with fiestas and long evenings. However, it is the busiest and hottest month of the year. Go in prepared: book everything in advance, arrive at the beaches early and embrace the heat. Do that, and August will not disappoint.
