2017 is coming to a close and having written my round of of my year, I wanted to share my 2018 plans.
2018 plans
I am hitting the travelling thing quite hard at the beginning of this year, so I am a little worried I might peak too soon both in terms of actually being able to afford all of these trips and also annual leave.
2018 will, of course, start in New York. Flying in 10hours! This is my first new year abroad and also the first time I have really done anything major for it. I am not a big lover of new year, I actually think there is a lot of hype and pressure about it. However, I am so excited about spending one in my favourite city.
February will involve a weekend break to Copenhagen, which I have always wanted to visit. This will be followed by a week skiing in Les Arcs the week after.
Then at the end of March heading off to Kenya and Uganda to go and see the gorillas, which is such a dream of mine!
As you can see that is quite a lot to fit into the first 4 months, particularly considering I have a job! So I may have to take it easy for the next few months.
However I do have a few things I would like to achieve in my 2018 plans:
Back to Menorca!
I don’t know if I could get through a summer without visiting this place now. It feels so wonderful and familiar when I go back and the re-charge I always need.
Seeing the Northern Lights
This has been an aim of mine for a while but I am determined! Thinking either a short break to Finland around November time or heading back to Iceland for new year 2018/2019
Visiting a Christmas market
My twitter and Instagram feeds are full of wonderful pictures and advice on these at the moment and I actually can’t believe I haven’t been to one yet! I am such a big lover of Christmas and I’m not sure anything would get me in the mood more. It would have to be in December that I go to one though as I don’t celebrate Christmas before then!
Country 38
As mentioned, I did manage to reach my goal of 30 countries before I turned 30 and so upped it to, the slightly less catchy, 40 before 30. I know 2018 holds trips to visit countries 36 and 37 but by the end of the year I will only have 3 months left to complete this updated goal. So I would like to visit at least one more new country.
Lonely Planet top 10
I was given the Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2018 for my Secret Santa at work which is definitely going to inspire me for my 2018 plans. There are few places in this book that I have wanted to visit for a while, so this may play a part in shaping the year. These include Portugal, Malta, Djibouti as well as Alaska and Slovenia. I did also just find myself nearly pressing book on a trip to Georgia!
So wish me luck and please send tips!
