Highlights along the Bondi to Coogee Walk

There are so many stunning places to find along the Bondi to Coogee walk, and these are the ones you are going to want to stop at.

Bondi Beach

One of the most iconic beaches in the world. Bondi Beach is known for it’s laid back atmosphere, surfing vibe and being a very chilled place to hang out. Start the walk near the south of the beach and you have an excellent view looking back over the golden sand.

Bondi Icebergs

The walk starts right by the well known Bondi Icebergs pool. This seawater fed pool is open year round, so if you have time before or after your walk you can choose to take a dip. Even if youโ€™re not swimming, the views alone are worth soaking in before you set off, or as a reward at the end.

Tamarama Beach

Just over 1 KM from Bondi, you will reach Tamarama Beach. Parts of this section of the walk are right on the edge of the cliff, allowing for some really dramatic views. Stop at Mackenzies Point along the way for some beautiful snaps.

Tamarama Beach is a small, picturesque beach nicknamed “Glamarama”, for all the “trendy” people that sunbathe here. It is a great spot for a quick rest or photo opportunity, although not the safest for swimming.

Bronte Beach

Not much further along the walk, only around 700 M, and you will reach Bronte Beach. This is one of the larger beaches on the Bondi to Coogee Walk. It is much quieter and less touristy than Bondi Beach, so a perfect place to stop for a while. There is some lovely, shallow water to one side of the beach that even offers a chance to snorkel.

Clovelly Beach

As you leave Bronte Beach you will pass the Waverley Cemetery. From here make your way to Clovelly Beach. Depending on your route this will be a just under or just over 2 KM walk. This beach seems wild, with big waves and strong currents visible as you approach. However, Clovelly Beach is a narrow cove and gets very shallow and making it a fun place to swim. There are waves that you can jump, and also an abundance of fishes for snorkelling.

Waverley Cemetery, a large hillside cemetery filled with white tombstones, overlooks a rocky coastline with a natural swimming pool and the ocean under a cloudy sky.

Gordons Bay

The stretch of the Bondi to Coogee walk between Clovelly Beach and Gordons Bay is one of the shortest, at just over 500 M, and also one of the prettiest. There are some rocks here which you can use to sunbathe, but this is more the beach if you want to experience marine life. The local dive club has created the Underwater Nature Trail, so there might be lots of snorkellers and divers.

Coogee Beach

You’ve reach the end of the Bondi to Coogee walk – Coogee Beach! Around 600 M after Gordon’s Bay, you will arrive at the end of the walk. This short final segment makes it’s way through grassy headlands and rocky outcrops, giving you final glimpses of ocean pools and cosy seaside nooks before you arrive at the busy Coogee Beach.

This relaxed beach is packed full of cafes and restaurants, so perfect for unwinding and treating yourself to some well earned food!

Three Blue Ducks is a local favourite for fresh, seasonal dishes and good coffee, while Cali Press offers smoothies and healthy bites. Itโ€™s an ideal stop in the middle of the walk to refuel and enjoy the ocean breeze.

While Little Jack Horner and Tropicana offer relaxed seaside dining with plenty of options to wind down after you’ve finished.

What to bring with you

To make sure you have a successful walk, don’t forget to bring the following:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Swimming clothes and a towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle – there are plenty of water fountains where you can refill along the way.
A distinctive, large rock formation with an eroded overhang dominates the foreground, with a coastal path and people in the mid-ground, leading to green hillsides with buildings under a sunny sky.

Bondi to Coogee Walk – the logistics

Be aware, there is very little shade along this walk. If you are embarking on it during summer, be prepared to be basking in the heat. There are plenty of water fountains along the walk, so you can fill up water bottles as you, but make sure to start with enough.

I recommend starting the walk in the morning, particularly if you are visiting in the summer months, it will be quieter and you will avoid the heat of the day.
