3 days in Doha is the perfect amount of time to experience this city. This gives you enough time to see all the sights, as well as a day to explore other parts of Qatar. With Qatar Airways offering some incredible stopover packages, it is the ideal way to experience the beauty and charm of this wonderful country.
3 days in Doha: do you need this much time?
There is so much to see and do in Doha that you can easily fill three days. I listed all the best things to see in this post: places to visit in Doha for an amazing layover. Having 3 days in Doha gives you the perfect amount of time to visit them all. This allows for two days exploring the city and one day to see some other parts of Qatar.
If you have more than 3 days in Doha, then I would suggest adding a second day trip to your itinerary. Either visit North and West Doha or take a trip into the desert.
How to get to Doha
Doha is very well connected with cities in Europe, the USA and Asia, so it is worth checking for cheap flight deals on Skyscanner.
However, I would recommend looking at flying with Qatar Airways, which is one of the best airlines I have flown with. If you are heading to Asia, then adding a stopover for 3 days in Doha is the perfect way to get a chance to see this city. When I flew from Sydney to London, I booked a stopover package. It cost me ยฃ11 extra to book a 3-night stopover in Doha than it would have if I had only had a 2-hour layover in the airport. The hotel is even included in the package and cost! What an amazing deal, how could I say no?
Where to stay in Doha
If you decide to book your trip through theย Qatar Airways stopover package, you will have a choice of hotels to choose from. From 4* to 5* plus, and a choice of 4 hotels in each category. If you choose to book independently, there is aย wealth of hotels to choose from in Doha. You are spoilt for choice!
WHERE TO STAY IN DOHA:
Budget:ย Green Garden Hotelย โ A clean, comfortable, and affordable option in central Doha. Green Garden Hotel is ideal for short stays. It is within easy reach of major attractions like Souq Waqif and the Corniche.
Mid-range: Alwadi Hotel Doha โ MGalleryย โ Stylish and perfectly located near Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art. Alwadi offers modern rooms, excellent service, and a rooftop bar with views over the city.
Luxury:ย Mondrian Dohaย โ Bold, artistic, and unapologetically unique, it is a luxury hotel that blends high design with comfort. Expect statement interiors, indulgent dining, and a truly memorable stay.
How to get around Doha
Doha is super easy to get around, which helps with maximising the amount you can see in 3 days in Doha.
Walking – It is a fairly easy city to walk around, the pavements are big and wide, and it feels relatively safe. However, it is a large city and can often be incredibly hot, so you wouldn’t want to walk the entire length of the city.
Metro – The Metro is super easy to use and incredibly fancy. Definitely the best way to get around Doha! It covers a lot of the city and is very clean and well-maintained. You can buy a day pass, which costs 6 QAR (around ยฃ1.30), which covers not only the Metro but the buses as well. So anywhere the Metro doesn’t reach, the buses surely will.
Uber – Ubers are incredibly cheap and convenient in Doha. I took 3 Ubers in one day and it cost 34 QAR (around ยฃ7.50).
Hop-on-hop off bus – If you are a little short on time, the hop-on-hop-off bus is a good way to get around and see the best parts of Doha. It will take you around all the top sights in Doha, and the ticket is valid for 24 hours.

3 Days in Doha: The Overview
This itinerary for 3 days in Doha gives you two days exploring the city, and one day to explore Qatar with a day trip.
Day 1: Souq Waqif, museums and culture
Day 2: Day trip to North and West Qatar
Day 3: Final sights in Doha – iconic views and shopping malls
If you are a little short on time or don’t want to deal with figuring out transport, consider a day tour of the city for your first day. This is a good way to get to know a city.
3 Days in Doha: The Details
Day 1: 3 days in Doha
I arrived in Doha on Day 1 at 4:30 am, which, while exhausting, gave me a full day to explore the city. Ideally, you’ll arrive the night before or early in the morning, too, so you can make the most of your time. With that in mind, Day 1 was planned as a gentle introduction to Doha, allowing time to settle in and take things at a relaxed pace without venturing too far.
Souq Waqif
Souq Waqif is the perfect place to begin exploring Doha, offering a vibrant blend of traditional Middle Eastern charm and rich culture. Sellers aren’t pushy, it is clean, and so you can wander around enjoying the sights without feeling overwhelmed. It is also home to lots of cafes and wonderful places to eat, so perfect to ease yourself in with a slow morning. Don’t miss the camel pen and falcon souk.
Top Tip: If you are looking for a tour of the souk, why not tryย this half-day tour,ย which adds a layer of local knowledge! It will also take you to Katara, & the Pearl.
The Corniche and Pearl Monument
5-minute walk from Souq Waqif
The Corniche is a 7 KM long waterfront walk, and one of the key places to see is located directly opposite Souq Waqif. Head for the Pearl Monument, where you get to see the monument erected to celebrateย Dohaโs pearl diving heritage, and some great views of Doha’s Skyline behind.
Museum of Islamic Art
14-minute walk from Pearl Monument
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is the first of the two museums I recommend you visit in your 3 days in Doha. Spend some time in this museum learning about the history of Islam. If nothing else, make sure to check out the views of the skyline from the cafe and the courtyard behind.

Flag Plaza
12-minute walk from MIA
Head to the Flag Plaza for a short stop. The plaza features over 100 flags representing countries with diplomatic missions in Qatar, as well as international organisations. Itโs a colourful, open area and makes for a great photo spot.
Box Park
14-minute walk / 2-minute drive from Flag Plaza
This is the old port area of Doha, and it has been updated to now feature colourful shipping containers, named Box Park. If you want to get out on the water, this is the place to do it.
Mina District
12-minute walk / 2-minute drive from Box Park
Probably my favourite place in Doha! Mina district is a pastel lover’s dream, and one of the newer districts in Doha. It has a beautiful promenade along the water, lined with cafes. This makes it the perfect place to get something to eat. Take your time to wander the pretty streets, packed with ice cream shops, cafes and boutique shops. Donโt miss the most stunning fish market, possibly the most impressive in the world.

Sunset Dhow Boat trip
Take some time off at your hotel before finishing off your first day in Doha with a Dhow boat trip at sunset. This is one of the ‘must-do’ things during the 3 days in Doha. The Dhow boats are traditional Qatari boats and a great way to see the skyline. You can book tours (in cash) on the Corniche, or book a tour in advance to be collected from your hotel.

Day 2: 3 days in Doha
For the 2nd of your 3 days in Doha, it is time to take a day trip out of the city to see some more of the country of Qatar. Head out to North and West Qatar on a day trip from Doha.
You can hire a car and drive yourself, although be aware that some of the destinations do require a 4X4 vehicle. Alternatively, book onto a day tour.
Top Tip: For that extra layer of local knowledge, book onto this day trip to North and West Qatar, which includes hotel transfers.
North Qatar
Head out from Doha and along the way have a quick photo stop inย Lusail City,ย just north of the city, for a snap of the two prominent twisting towers, theย Lusail Plaza Towers.
From there, head to Al Khor Harbour and fish market, Al Thakira Mangroves, Al Jumail Abandoned Village and Al Zubara Fort.
I’ve shared all the information you need about these fantastic places in this post: Amazing Day trip from Doha: Visiting North and West Qatar.
West Qatar
From North Qatar, carry on to the west of the country. Here, make sure to visit Zekreet Peninsula, which is home to some otherworldly landscapes. Don’t miss East West / West East, which is one of the most impressive desert sculptures you can see. Finally, visit Al Shahahniya Racetrack to see more camels than you ever thought you would!

Day 3: 3 days in Doha
For your final day in Doha, it is your chance to visit the parts of the city that might be a little further out. For today, you will need to make use of the metro and Uber as the distances between each destination are a little further.
National Museum of Qatar
If you only visit one museum in your time in Doha, make sure it is the National Museum of Qatar. The outside of the building is stunning, and the courtyard is home to the buildings of the Old Palace, which really contrasts with the modern city behind it. Inside, there are interesting and well-explained displays on the history of Qatar.

Katara Cultural Village
40 minutes on the metro / 17-minute drive from the National Museum of Qatar
A very well-known spot in Doha, and there is so much to see and do here! Katara Cultural Village is a cultural and recreational hub with shopping centres, restaurants, mosques, and even an amphitheatre and a beach!
Some of the best things to do are visit the Blue Mosque, grab a karak and chapati from Chapati & Karak, and visit the 3 pigeon towers.
Qanat Quarter and the Pearl
30 minutes on the metro / 8-minute drive from the National Museum of Qatar
The Qanat Quarter is one of the most well-known neighbourhoods in the area of Doha called the Pearl. This part of the city has been built to replicate the canals of Venice, with canals, colourful buildings and bridges. A great place to photograph. Other parts of the Pearl you might want to check out are Porto Arabiaย and Medina Centrale.

Place Vendรดme Mall
30 minutes on the metro / 10-minute drive from Qanat Quarter
If you want to see a Qatari Mall, Place Vendรดme is the place to go. It is a huge mall, with loads of luxury shops and cafes, restaurants and even a dancing fountain.
Katara Towers
20 minutes on the metro / 10-minute drive from Place Vendรดme Mall
One of the most iconic sights in Doha is the crescent moon-shaped towers, known as Katara Towers. You can get up close and personal to it, but the best views are across the water at the Lusail Marina Promenade.
Villaggio Mall
1 hour on the metro / 30-minute drive from Katara Towers
Another mall and another place that takes inspiration from Venice! Villaggio Mall is located in the West End of the city, and has everything from luxury shops to a theme park and even an ice rink. But the best thing to do is watch the gondolas punt up and down. You can even take a ride for 10 QAR (around ยฃ2)
Souq Waqif (again)
20 minutes on the metro / 20-minute drive from Villaggio Mall
There can be no other way to end your time in Doha, but re-visiting Souq Waqif. I really recommend visiting at a different time of the day to get a feel for the vibes. If you head here in the evening, this is the perfect place to have a final dinner before you leave Qatar.
I hope you found this post on how to spend 3 days in Doha helpful! I found this to be the perfect amount of time, but you could easily spend one more or one less day.

What was the attitude to you as a single woman touring alone? Did you feel safe?
I felt really safe! I was pleasantly surprised, given some reactions in previous countries. But I walked around on my own, and got no attention at all. Would really recommend for a solo female traveller!
