Denmark as a child

Today I felt like taking a trip back down memory lane, before continuing with more recent travels.

I think I was about 8 or 9 when we went on a family trip to Denmark. I remember being really excited as we took an overnight ferry to get there, seemed like such an adventure. Particularly as I bought some fantastic trolls on board.

My highlight from this trip, and honestly the only thing I really remember, was definitely Legoland Billund. As a kid this was such a great day out. It look some bullying to get me to drive the lego cars around the track and get my driving licence, but once I had done this I remember feeling so proud.

We got certificates for things we achieved, and displayed these in our’museum’ at the end of the day.

I also remember visiting a Viking Village, seeing the long houses and how the villagers lived. Couldn’t tell you where this was or the name, so not much of a recommendation I am afraid.

My only other, slightly random, memories of this holiday are my dad killing a mosquito on the wall and being terrified that it had bitten me after seeing the blood on the wall and also my brother getting splinter after splinter from walking around on the decking barefoot.

I knew Denmark was a country I definitely haven’t seen enough of, but writing this post has made me realise just how little I have seen and remember! I’m actually a little embarrassed to be able to claim Denmark as one of the countries I have been to! Once my quest to reach 40 before 30 is over, this is definitely somewhere I need to go back to. I have been told Copenhagen is wonderful, so this is firmly on the list!
